![]() Revelation 17:8 is a horrifying passage for those who refuse to surrender to Jesus as Lord. Revelation 13:8 is a chilling fact that all whose names are not written in the “book of life of the Lamb who was slain” will worship a blasphemous image. In fact, Jesus will confess us before the Father and His angels. Revelation 3:5 says the one who conquers will wear white garments, and the Lord Jesus will never blot our names out of His book of life. Hebrews 12:22-23 relates how we will take part in the heavenly assembly of the firstborn “who are enrolled in heaven.” Philippians 4:3 - “Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.” The New Testament makes various other mentions of the Book of Life: So, not only are our names written in the Book of Life, but the Book is also in heaven where Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father ( Acts 2:32-33). “Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” This is a direct reference to the Lamb’s Book of Life as described in Revelation 13:8. Luke 10:20 gives us the location of the Book of Life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” What Is the Book of Life and Where Is It?īilly Graham answered the first part of this question: “The Book of Life is God’s record of all those over the centuries who have trusted Christ as their Savior and have followed Him as Lord.” Whoever has the Son has life whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. Nothing can separate those who have surrendered to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (more about this below).ġ John 5:11-13 - “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Since the book of life is that which records all who have eternal life through the Lamb, it’s clear that the book of life and the Lamb’s book of life are one and the same.Romans 8:35-39 - “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all the day long we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. They are the ones who will enter the Holy City, the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:10) and who will live forever in heaven with God. The Lamb who has been “slain from the creation of the world” has a book in which are written all those who have been redeemed by His sacrifice. In Revelation 13:8 and 21:27, we find the references to the "Lamb’s book of life," in which also are the names of all those who have been washed by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Thus, Revelation 17:8 teaches both eternal security and election. The names of those who approve of the Antichrist are not found in the book of life, and the names that are in the book of life were written there before the world was created. Revelation 17:8 clarifies when the names of the redeemed are written in the book of life: “The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast” (emphasis added). Conversely, Revelation 20:15 reveals the fate of those whose names are not written in the book of life-eternity in the lake of fire. The Lord Jesus, who is speaking to the churches in this part of Revelation, promises to acknowledge his own before His Father. This verse also makes it clear that once a name is written in the book of life, Jesus promises that He will never blot it out, proving once more the doctrine of eternal security. These are those who overcome the trials of earthly life, proving that their salvation is genuine. In the same way, Revelation 3:5 refers to the book of life in which the names of believers in the Lord are found. Paul refers to those who have labored alongside him as those whose names are in the book of life (Philippians 4:3), again identifying the book of life as a record of the names of those who have eternal salvation. Those whose names are written in the book of life are those who belong to God, those who have attained eternal life. ![]() Seven of the references appear in the book of Revelation. There are eight references in New Testament to the “ book of life,” and two of them refer specifically to the book of life that belongs to the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
